In 1852 some 53 persons immigrated to America from Biri and Snertingdoler.

Torger Amundsen Huskelhus, age 41, (son of Amund Andersen Huskelhus nordre), his wife Marthe Halvorsdtr. age 50 and son Hans, age 19 were born in Gausdal. In America, Torger took the name "Kalbakken" , and settled in 1855 to the Coon Valley on section 31 , Township of Hamburg, LaCrosse County, Wisconsin. First he worked as a saddle maker for two or three years in Janesville, Wisconsin. He and his son Hans lived on a farm of 160 acres.
Torger died in 1893 and his wife in 1881. Both are buried in the Upper Coon Valley churchyard. His son Hans, was first married to Helen Christoffersdtr. and they had a daughter Anna Marie, Both his wife and daughter died of diphtheria in 1861. In 1863, Hans then married Randine Hemmah, and had the following children: Theodor, Henry Melvin, Carl, Anna Marie and Ella Nicoline.
Hans Kalbakken died in 1900, and is buried in the Upper Coon Valley churchyard.
His son, Theodore Kalbakken born in 1864, settled in section 29, township of Washington on 140 acres. In 1922 he sold his farm and moved to Sparta, Wisconsin.
