Johnson Champley Kidd 134,385,1155,2827,2828
General Notes: 1861 census, Perth County, Wallace Township. Research Notes: Listowel - previous names were Mapleton and Windham, both of which were used by inhabitants. In 1856 the post office opened, and, unable to decide between the two names, the officials went with neither of them and picked a name out of the air, the name of a town in Ireland. The inhabitants of Listowel (sometimes spelled Listowell in early years) didn't even know how to pronounce it; the name of the Irish city is pronounced "Lis-TOLE" but even today the name of the Perth County town is pronounced "LIST-uh-wel" or "LIST'w'l." Noted events in his life were: • Occupation: Farmer, 1851, Maryborough, Wellington North, Ontario. 134 • Residence: a log shanty, 1851, Maryborough, Wellington North, Ontario. 134 • Occupation: Innkeeper, 1871, Listowell, Perth North, ON. 2827 • Religion: Church of England, 1871, Listowell, Perth North, ON. 2827 Johnson married Mariah Winch, daughter of Samuel Winch and Elizabeth Monteney, on 27 Nov 1848 in Ontario. (Mariah Winch was born about 1826 in E. Gwillimbury, ON, Canada 134 and died 1871 ?.) Johnson next married Catherine. (Catherine was born about 1846 in Ontario 2827.) |
