Lars L. Haug
Lars Larson Haug passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs, Carl Dahlby Sunday morning at one o'clock of erysipelas.
He was born in Vardal, Norway, May 17, 1836, and came to this country with his wife and children during President Lincoln's administration in the year 1864. He first settled at New Amsterdam but lived there only a short time. His first wife died in 1870 and in 1873 he was married to Nicholena Hanson. His second wife died on Nov 9, 1921. Mr. Haug was one of the first settlers in this part of the county. For a time he worked on the river and in the woods and later took up a homestead five miles east of Onalaska. He remained on this land and worked it until ten years ago when he sold the place and moved to West Salem where he lived with a daughter part of the time. In 1919 he purchased a home in Onalaska which he sold in 1921 when he and his wife started to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Dahlby.
Deceased is survived by four sons and four daughters, Mrs. Christ Hanson, Mrs. Christ Jenson, Martin Larson and Robert Larson of Saskatchewan, Canada; Mrs. Theo. Munson of West Salem, Ben Larson of La Crosse, and Mrs. Carl Dahlby and Austin Larson of Onalaska. He is also survived by 34 grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Larson Haug was well known and well liked by many people. He was always good natured and kind hearted. Many people were surprised to know that he was 87 years old for he was always active. Throughout his life he had hardships to contend with but had always met them with a smile on his face. Last year at election he was one of the oldest voters in the city.
Funeral services are being held this Thursday afternoon from the Norwegian church and interment will be made in the Onalaska cemetery. Rev E. O. Vik is officiating and Undertaker A. E. Smith is in charge.
