bullet  General Notes:

By the time of Jean's schooling, the Uxbridge town paper was called The Northern Times. From it we read that Jean was in Jr. High school in 1927 and that she passed the entrance exams to high school in 1930. She always was an honour student in elementary school and probably did well in secondary school too. While in elementary school Jean won awards at the Uxbridge School Fair in essay contests. She was also active in sports during her secondary schooling and took music lessons from the Toronto Conservatory of Music.
After leaving high school, Jean became a stenographer. While working at IBM she met and married the head of IBM Canada, Samuel Casey Wood III.
During their married life they lived in Toronto, New York, and Oakville, On.
While at IBM, Casey had a serious and rare illness, migrating phlebitis, which even affected cerebral veins. He was one of the first people in Toronto to be given penicillin. His body reacted against it but the doctors found an alternative medication which he took the rest of his life. After a recovery period of two years, Casey became publisher and owner of Oakville Trafalgar Journal, a weekly newspaper. Casey died in May 1972 from a stroke and was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. Jean fought cancer for the last nine years of her life. When she died in Aug 1988, she was at the home of her daughter, Susan, in Gore's Landing, On.
Jean was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery beside Casey.
