As a youngster in Cheshire on an estate of Lord Inchiquin, John Childs met the scientist Marconi who invented communication by wireless. The story goes that John would throw pebbles into the local pond and Marconi would study the enlarging ripples.

[in 1905 Marconi married the Hon. Beatrice O'Brien, daughter of the 14th Baron Inchiquin]

John tried to enter the Boer War but was returned due to being underage.
went to India for 2 six year stints.
John Childs was in WW1

John apparently met his wife Jessie Moore while on the estate of Lord Inchiquin in Cheshire.
