extensive searching for the birth registration of Agnes Smith, between the years 1858 and 1864 in both Edinburgh City and in East Lothian which would cover Dunbar and Haddington.. lots of Agnes Smith girls registered but none with the correct parents found so far.... July 30, 2005.. jca

The death registration for Agnes (Smith) Newberry equally difficult to find.
Searched all of Scotland from 1901 -1954 for Newb* (wild card), first name Agnes, birth year: 1861 +/- 10 years.. only Agnes Newbigging deaths found. no Agnes Newberry.

It later turned out that her name was actually HELEN Smith as per her birth registration, her death registration as well as shown to be HELEN on the death registration of her daughter Agnes Newberry. No wonder Agnes Smith was impossible to find.. The question of why HELEN went by the name of Agnes for all of her known census records and all of her childrens birth is still unanswered... jca
