VETERAN DEAD
Arthur A. Cooper Saw Service in the Crimea, India and Turkey
_________
The death of Arthur A. Cooper of Chambly Canton, Que., is announced after a short illness, at the age of 91 years. Mr. Cooper was born in Liverpool, Ingland. He enlisted in the army in 1848, and was attached to the 34th Regiment of Infantry. In 1854 the regiment embarked for the Crimea. He returned home in 1856, and the following year embarked for India and was soon in active service. In this engagement Mr. Cooper was slightly wounded. He was engaged in the final taking of Lucknow. His medals, which he wore with pride, were the Crimea, Turkey and the Indian Mutiny. At the funeral of the Duke of Wellington, six men were selected from each regiment as mourners, of whom Mr. Cooper was one.
Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, four daughters and three sons, one of whom went overseas with the 244th "Kitchener's Own," and has been fighting with the 14th Battalion for the past year.
