bullet  Research Notes:

In a recent correspondance Mary Elizabeth Fullerton [ Founder/Artistic Director Napa Valley Shakespeare Festival Napa, California ] writes:
I am searching for information regarding the death of my great-grandfather, John Reginald Fullerton, son of Reverend Arthur Fullerton of Thrybergh. He had emigrated to Canada about 1880. His older brother, James Townsend Fullerton, left for Canada before him. He had another brother named Weston. He and my great-grandmother were estranged, I believe, at the time of his death. Legend has it that he died in a polo match near San Francisco. I am wondering if any information might have made it back to his birthplace of Thrybergh.
Death records for that period in and around San Francisco were destroyed during the great earthquake. My guess at the approximate date of his death is vague-the 1890's or first decade of the "new" century. My grandfather, also John Reginald Fullerton returned to England with his mother, Ada Clarice Fullerton Lawson for his education. I believe Ada died there during World War I. I have her letters; the last is dated 1918.

Hi James: (This is another one of my lo-o-o-ng explanations as there is quite a bit to go through re John and his family)

I noticed you have had contact with a Fullerton from California and thought that might have been as a result of the Private Member Tree inquiry. I found a John R Fullerton that died in 1913 in Hull, Yorkshire and thought he might be John Reginald of Augusta's children.

However, after reading your addition to the family tree, I did a more diligent search and found this to be a John Robert Fullerton who was born and died in Hull. That piece of info from the Napa Valley was very timely!

It also answered a nagging question for me because Ada, John's wife, had remarried in 1896 in Winnipeg and I wondered how she could have do that if he was still alive. I also found John and Ada's son, Reginald Fullerton, married and living in North Dakota and noticed he gave his birthplace as Balgonie, SK on his WWI Draft Reg. I knew Ada's parents were in SK (from another family tree in ancestry) and one of the sons had been been in Balgonie, so went looking in the SK bmd records to see if his birth was registered there, but no luck.

However, did find a Marjorie Selina Fullerton born 1894, parents Ada and John. Have found nothing further on Marjorie so don't know what happened to her. Ada's parents emigrated to the US in 1897 so were still in SK when Marjorie was born. Perhaps she and John were estranged by this time?

Ada did take the 2 children by herself to England in 1892, but obviously she was back in Canada by 1894 to give birth and most certainly in 1896 when she re-married. Her 2nd husband was Ernest E W Lawson. According to the data I found, does not appear to have been someone who had to work, and made a number of trips between Canada and England. His father was a merchant.

John's daughter, Rosalie, married in 1911 in Ontario to a Gabriel Elmsley and it looks like they had one son. Gabriel's father was a Justice of the Peace for Canada but lived a fair amount it seems in England. Both Rosalie and Gabriel ended up in Victoria, BC and their deaths are recorded in BC Archives.

I'm sending a number of attachments separately so you can see where I obtained some of the info included in the Word document which is also attached. There are still some gaps, as there was much to gather with this family. I haven't included detail, but Ada and Ernest Lawson had three daughters in addition to the 2 children with John.
