Note: Both gave their address as Calgary, NWT

From this piece of info, I found the marriage of George Robert Browne and Emma Frances Gun in 1862, a George Denis Gun-Browne bio in the Cambridge University Alumni, 1261-1900 (Michs 1894) which lead me to a Family Tree in rootsweb.com and a number of passenger listings, Britsh phone directory listings, along with info that George2 and Gertrude had at least 2 children. It looks like they settled in South Africa after about 5 years living in London.



George Gun-Browne first arrived via ship from Liverpool to New York in 1895 in transit to Toronto. I don't know how or why he ended up in Calgary or how he met Gertrude Bessie. George1 returned to England with his mother Frances and daughter Dorothy who are all listed in a 1901 Census. However, the son, George Derrick at age 4 was still back in Alberta with his grandmother Hudson in Okotoks. There has to be a story there. The cause of the Patterson divorce was recorded as "cruelty and adultery". I'm getting suspicious that perhaps George Derrick's father might have been George2 rather than George1?? Lastly, Dorothy Patterson is recorded returning to Calgary along with her grandmother, Frances, via Halifax on 25 Mar 1911 from Liverpool. However, the 1911 Alberta Census shows Frances living with her other son, Francis and family, but no census record for either Dorothy or her brother, George Derrick.

Hi Jim:

Have come across a family tree which is owned by a fellow in Toronto, Ont.
which is the focus of the Browne family (George Denis Gun Browne) and includes some interesting info but which is bare on detail.

1. George Denis Gun Brown - born 5 July 1874
This tree says George died in 1946 at age 72

2. Gertrude Bessy Hudson
Says Gertrude died in 1953

However, neither say where George or Gertrude died -- and the date of 1953 blows my theory that she may have died before 1938 as she was not mentioned in Arthur Hudson's obit.

More info says that their first child, who was listed as "Esther" on a Passenger List for New York is in reality:

Also has info that Hester married (1) a George Ryder Runton in 1931 and then (2) Living McCulloch in 1945. Also says Runton was born 1899 in Sculcoates, Yorkshire (which I located Vol 9d page 138) and died in 1935.

Their second child, Denis George Robert Anthony Gun Brown was born 9 August 1907 - and we already have that birth. There is no mention of a marriage or children. I have already found him moving back from Natal to London on a different website.

This family tree "Royalty & Peerage" is owned by randt_1 and I thought I'd send off an e-mail identifying myself and how I relate to the Hudson side so I could hopefully obtain more info as it is short on detail.

George married Gertrude Elizabeth Hudson, daughter of John Robert Sutton Hudson and Elizabeth Mary Ellis, on 23 Mar 1901 in York, Ontario.¹²² (Gertrude Elizabeth Hudson was born in 1872 in St Nicholas Ipswich, Suffolk, England ^83,118,123, christened on 15 Jul 1874 and died possibly 1953 in Mombasa ?.)
