Checking with Merced County, California, County Recorder's Office, determined that Walter Porter of this social security number actually was born in United States on 10 November, 1882, not 1889 and is therefor NOT the correct Walter Porter as hoped for. Also the father of the Walter Porter who died in Merced, CA was James Porter, not Abraham Porter. March 25, 2003. jca

note that 1920 New Jersey census records show two brothers Walter and Fredrick Porter living together in Jersey City, N. J. both born in England, Walter married to Josephine.
Walter age 29, but Frederick shows as age 30 which according to the birth registration , is too young for Frederick, but still looks very promising.. jca. Walter shows up again on the 1930 New Jersey census.
