OBITUARY
ALEXANDER ANDERSON

One of the oldest settlers of South Monaghan passed away without a moment's warning on Saturday last in the person of Alexander Anderson in his eighty-eighth year. His parents came from Perth, Scotland, and settled in South Monaghan when the deceased was a baby, on the farm which has ever since been his home. There he lived and toiled, and with that industry and frugality characteristic of his race, gathered much of this world's goods and gained what is of more lasting value the good will and esteem, by honest and large hearted traits, of the whole community. Some eight years ago his wife was called from him. Deceased had been in his usual good health up to the last and took his supper as usual and while reading his paper quietly breathed his last. Six sons and three daughters all either at home or in the immediate neighborhood are called upon to mourn his departure, Thomas, Alfred, Alexander, George, Fred and Ernest, Misses Elizabeth, Carry and Sophia. Deceased was a Presbyterian in religion and a Conservative in politics. The funeral took place on Monday to the Presbyterian Cemetery, Centreville, a very large concourse of friends and neighbors being present to show their last token of respect.
