General Notes:
1848 census, S. Monaghan , Ontario, National Archives of Canada, film # M-5911, page 33 lot 3 , concession 2, William Anderson, non-proprietor, farmer. 7 residents in total, 3 Scottish, 4 Canadian born 100 acres of land, 48 acres tilled, 4 acres pasture, 48 acres wooded (note this lot appears to be adjacent to the land lived on by Alexander Anderson whose first wife was Catherine Kennedy (d. 1838) on lot 2, concession 2) ________________________________________________________ 1850 census, S, Monaghan, Ontario, National Archives of Canada, film M-5915, page 19 lot 3, concession 2, William Anderson, 7 residents in total, 3 Scottish, 4 Canadian, all Church of Scotland males: single 18<21=1, married 40<60=1 females : single 14<30=1, married 40<60=1 , 5<10= 1, 10<14=3 (adds up to 8 persons? ________________________________________________________ 1851 census S. Canada age 14, Catherine b Canada age 10 ________________________________________________________ This surely must be the William Anderson and wife "Helen" that is mentioned in the letter from Hazel Anderson to James C. Anderson dated July 31, 1976. The "Helen" that is a sister to Catherine Kennedy. note by James C. Anderson.. ________________________________________________________ 1861 census, S. Monaghan, Ontario, National Archives of Canada, film # C1055, page 21, line 15 William Anderson, farmer, b. Scotland, Free Church, age 66 Ellen Anderson b. Scotland, age 62 Alexander Anderson, single, age 30, Christy, single, age 26 Ellen, single, age 24, Ann, single, age 22 AND.....GEORGE KENNEDY, AGE 7, RESIDENCE IN COBURG, (Ontario) _______________________________________________________ note by James C. Anderson... this entry for George Kennedy is most interesting as it ties Ellen Anderson to the Kennedy family as noted by the letter from Hazel Anderson to James C. Anderson dated July 31, 1976.. It appears that young George Kennedy , age 7, was visiting the Andersons during the census taking. I must check out the census for Cobourg, Ontario for 1861.. it should be interesting..jca Perhaps young George Kennedy is a grandson of the missing brother John Kennedy. ________________________________________________________ Here is the 1861 census record for young George Kennedy in Cobourg, Ontario.
1861 census, Cobourg, Ontario, National Archives of Canada, film # C1054, page 75 Julia Kennedy, b. England, religion WM, age 40, widow Thomas Kennedy, b. upper Canada, age 12, absent at census (note: it may be the turn for Thomas Kennedy to visit William and Ellen Anderson at the farm in the country... jca) George Kennedy, b. upper Canada, age 8 Mary E. Kennedy, b. upper Canada, age 10 John Kennedy, b. upper Canada, age 6 on 1/4 acre lot, frame house ________________________________________________________ note: the George Kennedy mentioned on the Cobourg census of 1861(film C1054, page 75, age 8) is for sure the same George Kennedy also picked up on the S. Monaghan census also of 1861 (film C-1055, page 21, age 7) who happened to be visiting William Anderson and wife Ellen who I suspect is his great aunt. quote : "George Kennedy, age 7 , residence Cobourg". It is a pity that mother Julia is a widow. It will make it harder to trace back one more Kennedy generation to where I suspect we will find a John Kennedy , the missing brother to Catherine and Ellen or "Helen" Kennedy. jca A search of the census records for Cobourg for 1861 found only a very few Kennedy's in the quite sizable town. No other Kennedy match was even interesting. jca . the Cobourg records for 1871 are missing so they are of no help. ________________________________________________________ Is it possible that this William Anderson is related to Alexander Anderson. They certainly appear to be married to the Kennedy sisters, Ellen and Catherine. Now to find the missing brother John Kennedy mentioned in the letter from Miss Hazel Anderson in 1976. (note by JCA) ________________________________________________________ This would appear to be the 1881 census record for William Anderson, jca
