William Moffitt was involved in Regulator movement led by Herman Husband, having been a delegate along with the younger Wm. Cox to an early meeting of Regulators. Said to have solicited funds from Deep River neighbours for carrying on a lawsuit to rectify the fees & such like (imposed by provincial leaders). His will indicates Wm. owned c500 A.

Last will and testament of William Cox in Randolph County, Wills book 2, page 30 dated 13 March, 1790.

In the name of God amen I William Moffitt of Randolph County in the province of North Carolina being weak in body but perfect in senses and memory do make this my last will & testament.

I leave unto my daughter Naomi Mackie three pounds.
I leave unto my daughter Catherine Cox three pounds.
I leave unto my daughter Hannah Cox three pounds.
I leave unto my son Robert Moffitt the land I bought of William Cox containing two hundred & fifty acres. The Deed bearing Date one thousand seven hundred and Seventy Three, accepting the new field that is cleared upon the River to his mother during her life.
I leave unto my son William Moffitt the plantation I now live upon containg two hundred and twenty five acres reserving to his mother the one half of the Meadow and the one half of the Orchard & the third part of the Other Buildings during her lifetime or Widdowhood.
I leave unto my daughter Margarett Moffitt two cows & two calves, one heiffer & one ------ in Sheep. & three pounds, Bed & Bedding and household furniture as the other girls got.
I leave unto my son David Moffitt my land upon Tibs Run containing one hundred and thirty acres and the whole waggon Irons? that was brought from Pig River & the Desk at his mothers pleasure & two cows & two calves & one Steer & the one fourth part of the lot in Cambleton? in Cumberland County & one fourth of the copper kettle & one --? & my largest bible & one third of the hundred acres of land I own in the pines. If the above mentioned lot is sold before David is of age he is to receive the forth part of its value & Kettle also. I also leave the hundred acres of land betwixt? on the Lo--fe? mountains to Robert Moffitt twenty five acres & to my son William Moffitt seventy five acres & also Robert & William each of them the one third of the hundred acres I own in the pines.
I leave unto my loving wife Mary Moffitt waggon & wagon gecrs? & Still & the whole Plantation Utentials & household furnishings and horses & cattle & sheep & hoggs.
It is is my will if my son David Moffitt dies before he is of age or without a lawfull heir, that his brothers Robert Moffitt & William Moffitt should share his property allowing their sisters each fifteen pounds.
I hereby constitute and appoint my loving wife Mary Moffit Executrix and my son Robert Moffitt Executor of this my last will & testament hereby revoking and dissannuling? all former wills and testaments in Witness thereof to all and every part of the above said will & testament I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 13 day of March 1790.
