Winch, John, Pioneer Settler of Belhaven, Ontario, unknown at this time. Pioneer Settler of Belhaven, Ontario
John Winch, 27 Jan. 1799 -12 May 1879. (John's parents are Samuel and Elizabeth Maynard) The 1851 Canada West census which was taken in early 1852 states that John was born in New York State and was of English racial orgin. The accompanying Ag. Census shows that John was farming lots 15 & 16 of Concession 4, North Gwillimbury Township, York Co., Canada West (Ontario). This is in the area that has to be known as "Belhaven". On 4 June 1828 John Winch of North Gwillimbury was listed in the annual return of Captain Arad Smally's Co. of the 2nd Regiment of the North York Militia (pg. 72-72). On the same date John H. Wilson's Company (pg. 89, 90, 92). North Gwillimbury township record show that John became a resident on the 4th Concession in 1828. Because John was born in the U.S. he was required to take an Oath of Allegiance to the British Crown at some time in 1836. His signature is preserved at the National Archives in Ottawa. About 1825 John married his first wife LYDIA MANN, abt 1810-15. Lydia was almosst certainly a daughter of Darius Mann Sr. 1773-1826, whom she is buried near, and in the midst of other children that are known to have been his, in the MANN CEMETERY AT KESWICK, Ont. John and Lydia had at least 6 children before she passed away. All of John and Lydia's children married, raised families and lived to see the 20th century. About 1840 John married Jane (?), about 1820-6 Nov. 1874. John had at least 7 more children with Jane making for a grand total of at least 13 children by 1863. John, Lydia, Jane and four of John and Jane's children are buried in the MANN CEMETERY AT KESWICK

Hello Mr. Anderson:
My name is Carol Neidrauer, I am the 4th great grandaughter of John Winch, son of Samuel Winch and Elizabeth Maynard. My Winch line forms from Richard Winch, the son of John Winch and Lydia Mann (or Alecia Dudley?)
My mother Joyce Dawson from Trail, B.C., and several of my aunts seem to recall the name Alecia Dudley and that perhaps she is the actual mother of Samuel and Richard. Thus John would have married 3 times.
John and Lydia Mann (if there is no Alecia)
Samuel 1826- married Ann Williams and they had 8 children
Richard 1828- married Roseanna Pringle and they had 10 children
Henry 1831- married Susan Williams
Louisa 1833- married Christopher Willoughby
Stephen 1835- married Lauretta Mortin
Clarissa 1837- married Arthur Clements
John and Jane
Emily Jane 1842- married Henry W. P. Grose
Mary Ann 1845- married Bartlett Tomlinson
Albert May 1850-
Martha 1854-
Lois (Louisa) 1856-
Susan 1859- married a Sennet
Malita 1862 married Hugh Bisset Cameron and they had 6 children
I have not been able to find any concret information regarding Alecia Dudley but the name does hand itself down in the family.
John, Lydia, Jane and several of their children are buried in the Mann Cemetery, in Keswick, Ontario.
Not sure if you are able to help me with the Alecia Dudley and John Winch, or perhaps you could put me in touch with someone who could. Thank you. Cousin Carol
