bullet  Research Notes:

The link between Stephen Cox in N.C. and the Thomas Cox who died in 1845 in Indiana is so far not proven and remains as one my genealogical challenges. jca

A search on Ancestry.com of the indexed 1830 census records in Randolph County, N.C. turns up only this record of a Stephen Cox. Effort needs to be made to more accurately locate in N. Carolina the locations of "First Regiment" (1830 census), and "Northern Division" (1840 census).

"Thomas Cox (of Stephen),
males under five: 2,
males five and under ten: 2,
males fifteen and under twenty: 1,
males thirty under fourty: 1,
females: twenty and under thirty: 1
seven persons in total, employed in agriculture"

Given the ages of the male children and ages of the parents, it would seem more than reasonable that this 1840 census record would be describing the family of Thomas and Mary (Moffit) Cox. jca
