bullet  Marriage Notes:

A short family history of the Nimmo family provided by Patti Jones (2006)

In 1920, Rose Helen Greenwood met and married Robert Nimmo, (my grandparents) born November 27, 1892, who had emigrated from Scotland eight years earlier. The wedding took place on June 3, 1920 in Delia, Alberta a the home of the church minister. Two witnesses stood up for them at the wedding ceremony. Robert was 27 years old and Rose was 20.

Robert Nimmohad been homesteading near Hanna, Alberta since 1913 and had 320 acres of fenced land there, mostly pasture, and a 10 X 16 foot cabin. In 1920 he rented 200 acres more of farmland next to his homestead and purchased some cattle. He also added a bedroom and a porch on to his little cabin just prior to marrying Rose Greenwood.

In 1921 Rose Helen and Robert Nimmo had their first child, Helen Elizabeth Nimmo, named after her maternal grandmother. She was born June 12, 1921. Eggs were selling for five cents a dozen from farmers, and milk was seven cents per quart. Beef, dressed, was sold to butchers for seven cents a pound.

On April 8, 1925, their second child was born, Robert Floyd Nimmo. The future did not look bright for homesteaders during those years, and soon the family sold out and moved to Drumheller, Alberta where coal mines were operating. Robert Nimmo Sr. reports that their family survived the Depression quite well due to good work in these coal mines.

On March 23, 1933 Rose Helen Greenwood Nimmo gave birth to fraternal twins, Daniel Albert Nimmo and Jean Eleanor Alberta Nimmo (my mom). Twins had made an appearance a few times already in the Greenwood family line.
Also, on October 24, 1935, their last child, William Russell Nimmo was born.
