Further insight into Charles Edward (Ted) Chittenden by Gary Chittenden., December 2005
Ted Chittenden left the family when William was 16. This was 1932 and my Dad (William) remembered he (Ted) came home in a brand new Model B Ford, packed some clothes and left. Ted was known to loan money and when it wasn't paid he would take possessions in its place. He arrived home with a piano which he could not play until he touched every key and remembered the sound. Then he listened to the radio and played what he heard. He also gained possession of a banjo which he also taught himself to play. After he left home it was learned that he had lived with a family in Hamilton and had borrowed the mans' engineering papers to gain employment in the U.S. There is a newspaper clipping, I may be able to secure, which places him in the U.S. where he rescued some people from a train wreck. He was also tracked to Florida where he was wooing a young lady.
