Hugh Harkness, age 87 years of 311 20th Street, East, Saskatoon and longtime resident of Maymont occurred in a local hospital on May 16, 1967. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of the Saskatoon Funeral Home conducted by Capt. L.E. Armistead. Surviving are: three sons, John of New Westminster, Crawford of Garibaldi Highlands and Hugh of North Vancouver; two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Reid (Maria) of Maymont and Mrs. Norman Melrose (Grace) of Maymont; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Harkness was predeceased by his wife Margaret in 1917 and by a son, Jim, in 1923. Born in Ireland, Mr. Harkness came to Canada in 1910. In 1912 he settled in Maymont where he owned and operated a blacksmith shop for 50 years. For the past 5 years he had resided in Saskatoon. His wife Margaret apparently died in Ireland before Hugh came to Canada. jca Margaret Elizabeth Reid said that the Harkness family came from the village of Ballymoney.
