bullet  Research Notes:

History of Benhall Church Records tell us that the Church was built by Ranulfe de Glanville, granted first Lord of the Manor by Henry II.

It is Henry II and his Queen, Eleanor, who are depicted at the head of the supporting pillars of the Norman arch, although both arch and effigies were significantly reworked in Victorian times. The southern porch was added in 1307.

The Tower, with its staircase and turret, is also of Norman style and houses six bells, number five dating back to 1533 and bearing the inscription, 'In this chamber Gabrielle now sound sweetly.'
The Treble (Number 1) was added in 1843, bells 2, 3 and 4 were hung in 1639 and the heaviest, number 6, a tenor in 1723. The first peal rung on the six bells was on December 8th 1894 and took two hours and forty five minutes. Apart from the Norman features mentionned, most of the Church has been rebuilt. It is filled with box pews of the nineteenth century, although the pulpit is thought to be Jacobean, dating back to the seventeenth century when it may have had three decks - Prayer desk, Lectern and Pulpit. Certainly it was altered in 1938 when the Lord of the Manor's pews were removed and choir stalls added.

The North Transept, later used as a school room, was added in 1842 by Lord of the Manor and Rector, the Reverend Edmond Hollond.

The Balcony was added at that time to house an organ. The Church was thoroughly repaired at the Revd Hollond's expense.
