BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES
JACOB FRALEIGH
Also known as Fralick .
The original spelling of the name Fraleigh was "Frolick", and it has also been spelled "Fraleck" or "Fralick". Jacob Fraleigh came to Prince Edward County as a United Empire Loyalist, likely with Major VanAlstine. He settled with his large family on a grant of land in Athol close to East Lake. He was considered to be one of the richest pioneers, bequeathing large sums to his children and grandchildren. His grandson, Jacob, being his namesake, also received three hundred acres of land.
One of the pioneer's sons, Jonathan Fraleigh, was the father of William Fraleigh who married Julia Vandewater. William served for forty years on the Council of Hallowell, an unprecedented record. Several times he was elected Reeve of the township, and in 1893 became County Warden.
