This marriage date of 1849 was taken from the 1865 birth registration of Samuel John Moreland where the informant (Alexander Moreland) apparently gave a marriage date of Feb 18, 1849 to the registrar. In light of the births of children Mary (abt 1843) and James Alexander (abt 1845) it would seem likely that Alexander Moreland may have been married previouly to his marriage to Ann Gemmell.

The marriage index of Ireland does show a 8 Feb 1849 marriage in Dromore , County Down of one Alexander Moreland and Ann Gamble (age 21). fathers being James Moreland and Hugh Gamble, further indicating that Alexander may have been married previously.

The names of Gemmell and Gamble need to be researched further.

The Presbyterian church registers of Dromara, County Down show a marriage of one Alexander Moreland to Agnes Rodgers, 09 Jun 1842. on LDS film 0496723 item 1. which could be his previous marriage.

This 1865 marriage of the eldest daughter of Alexander Moreland was the final proof that was needed: The mother was Agnes Rodgers.
