Hi James,
I came across your web page by chance and have found it very interesting.
My name is Moira Bell and I live in Washington, England. My grandfather Arthur Clark was a grandson of Alexander Moreland and Ann Gemmell (Gamble). His mother was Margaret Moreland their daughter who married Robert Clark. The address on their marriage entry is 2 Duke St. I only last week found Alexander and Ann's deaths. I had only the day before I found your site found the marriages of Alexander to Agnes and Ann though I have still to verify these, but when I found your site the info was as I had found. Margaret and husband Robert left Glasgow about 1880 as they had several children_ David, Annie, Robert, Isabella and Allen who on the 1881 census is aged one year. The 1881 census finds them at Stockton upon Tees, Co Durham (though this may be North Yorkshire as it formed the border between the two counties. While here they had three daughters, Margaret Ann, Agnes and Mary. The then moved to Newcastle on Tyne which was the capital of Northumberland in North East England. Where I live is about 10-12 miles south of Newcastle. They had a further four sons in Newcastle, Samuel, John, Henry and my grandfather Arthur. My grandparents were married in 1918 and had a family of 14 children (all survived) my mother was no. 4 and called Harriet Agnes Clark. My mother married my father Thomas Teasdale in Newcastle. I was an only child. My grandfather was born in 1895 and died in 1973. When I asked my mother about her father she said she knew next to nothing about him other than he had two sisters called Margaret Ann and Agnes, she said he was a "man of mystery", so this is how I refer to him. My mother said that as there were so many children there was always a baby in the house and he would sing Irish songs to lull them to sleep and now knowing his history I can see where the songs must have come from, his mother. My mam's eldest sister now dead was called Margaret. I'm very excited to have found you as you are the first from my Granada Clark's' line that I have made contact with.
I look forward very much to hearing from you.I must go now as it's tea time and my daughter has called me to ask for some assistance in preparing our meal.
Bye for now and God bless.
With kind regards,
Moira Bell
