- Born: 25 Aug 1845, England 2281,2422
- Marriage: Annie Maria Noble about 1880 in likely Ontario
General Notes:
Birth Registration #024693, 1881, Boston Mills, Chinguacousy twp, Ontario., Ontario Vital Records
George Nelson Townsley born the 23 March 1881 in Boston Mills, Chinguacousy twp, Peel County, (close to Brampton, Ontario.)
Parents: George Nelson Townsley and Annie Maria Noble
(note it is very strange that this birth is recorded as child George Nelson Townsley. All further records of this family show the only son as William George Townsley.. a recording error perhaps??)
(It would be tempting to discard this birth record entirely until one considers that Annie Maria Noble is shown as the mother on both this birth record and that of daughter Annie Marie Townsley in 1882 whos family shows up later on the 1901 census in Regina along with 20 year old brother William )

William, age 10, born Ontario Maria, age 9, b. Ontario (Annie Marie?) Jeannie, age 5, b. Ontario (Jennie ?) Milla, age 2, b. Ontario (Amelia May?)
(I would think that this must be the correct family as Annie Marie Townsley obituary says born in 1882 in Parry Sound, Ontario, so would be 9 years old in 1891 and that father was George Nelson Townsley and mother was Annie Marie. jca)
(note by editor.. it would appear that the age of 47 given here is possibly incorrect as the age given in the 1881 census was only 32 as was his wife Maria, age 22. son George N. was age 1 month.) _________________________________________________ 1901 census, Regina, Saskatchewan, District of Assiniboia (204), subdistrict C-2, polling division 3, Regina Town Centre, page 12 film T-6553

Obituary of Annie Marie (Townsley) Cripps..
Mrs. Cripps, the daughter of George Nelson and Annie Marie Townsley, was born Dec 7, 1882 in Parry Sound, Ont. She came west and married William C. Cripps in Regina in 1902. ____________________________________________________ RE the 1845 birth date of George Nelson Townsley as per 1901 Regina census: There are only 3 births registered in England between 1843 and 1847 - and only one of these aligns with the birth date. This likely match is under reference 1845/Sept/Wirral/29/316 - ie a birth registered in the July to Sept Quarter of 1845 in the Wirral Registration District of Cheshire. A copy cert could be ordered if required.
(copy ordered and received. by James Anderson, Jan 21, 2003. transcription below:) (doesnt look very promising......jca)
Wirral, subdistrict of Birkenhead, County of Chester No. 400 When and where born: 24 May, 1845, 19 Wellington Terrace, Birkenhead Name George, Father: Benjamin Townsley Mother: Sarah Townsley, formerly Walker registered: 3rd July 1845
That's the good news - but the bad news is that there are no other Townsley references (births/ marriages / deaths) found for this registration district. So I cannot link George to any of the known families and the implication is that the family was one of several that are known to have travelled around the country (for example there is one possible Townsley family with children born in Cheshire that were staying in Devon at the time of the 1851 census). It looks like George is still playing hard to get. Best wishes, Brian Townsley, Dec 28, 2002

Marriage Notes:
Hi James: I spent four hours this morning looking for that marriage of yours with no luck. After I looked for the marriage under the name of Townsley and I could not find them, I decided to look for the first child William. Here is what did find though. I found a George Nelson Townsley born the 23 March 1881 in Boston Mills, Chinguacousie "something like that spelling" which is close to Brampton, Ontario. #024693 in Ontario Vital Records. Parents: George Nelson Townsley and Annie Maria Nobles or Nobbs. The father was farm labourer. I made a copy of it but it is not very clear, that page was too dark. So I tried to their marriage by looking for Noble From 1878 to 1882 but no luck. Either we have to look again under the name of Townsley and or Noble.
