I haven't made it over to Fllmore county yet and guess I won't get there for while now, as I return to work on the 17th. But I did make it back to the Blue Earth County Court House and found out thats Where JAMES WINCH remarried for the second time, after ALLISON DOUGLAS WINCH died in 1875 he remarried (drum roll please) ELIZABETH HAMILTON on April 13, 1876, it was witnessed by THOMAS HAMILTON & GEORGE HAMILTON. I then checked the 1880 Census for Blue Earth County in the Pleasant Mound township and found this:

HAMILTON MARY, age 34, wife, born Scotland, mother born Scotland, father born Scotland.

HAMILTON ETTA, age 16, born Scotland, mother born Scotland, father born Scotland.

Elizabeth married James Winch, son of Samuel Winch and Elizabeth Monteney, on 13 Apr 1876 in Blue Earth County, Minnesota.³ (James Winch was born in 1841 in E. Gwillimbury, ON, Canada,⁹ ¹⁰ died in 1885 in Spokane, Washington ¹¹ and was buried in Old Methodist Cemetery, Spokane, WA ¹².)

It would appear that the marriage of James Winch to Elizabeth Hamilton didnt last long as the two are separated on the 1880 census with Elizabeth still using her Hamilton name and living at least temporarily with her cousin Thomas Hamilton in Pleasant Mound township of Blue Earth County, MN.

James dies in Spokane, Washington in 1885 while Elizabeth was admitted to St Peter Mental Hospital in 1882 and dies in 1908. jca

JOHNNIE WINCH
DIES OF CANCER

Cancer claimed the life of John Elmer Winch, 78 lifelong resident of the
Truman community. Johnnie Winch died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mabel Kurseth of Fairmont. He had been ill about 5 months.
Funeral services took place Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1959 from the Olson chapel and the Church of Christ with Pastor Dale Erickson officiating. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.
Born in Nashville June 23, 1881, the son of James and Elizabeth Winch, he moved with his parents to Pleasant Mound where he remained all the rest of his life until illness struck.
He is survived by his wife Erma Anderson Winch, whom he wed Jan. 22, 1903, and by 8 children. They are Herbert, of Phoenix, Ariz., Melvin of Renton, Wash., Walter and Earl of Fairmont, Elmer of Bemidji, Mrs. Mable Kurseth of Fairmont, Mrs David Chapman of Madison, S.D., and Mrs. Everett Roberts of Lake Crystal. A son Harold is deceased. There are 25 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Mabel Eisenlohr, of Montevideo, also survives.

July 23, 2001, Hi guys,

I just got off the phone with the St. Peter Mental Hospital Records
Department, phone number 1-507-931-7299. This is the real skinny on
Elizabeth (Hamilton) Winch wife of James Winch son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Monteney) Winch.....she was admitted Nov. 28th, 1882, and she died May 22, 1908, she is buried in the Resurrection Cemetery on hwy 99 East of St. Peter with a stone marker numbered 312, I told her I had a number given to me that it was 311 and she corrected me and said no its not its 312. The cemetery is on the right hand side of the road. I asked about old medical records on her if they still existed and was told that after they have been dead 30 years they incinerate them. So we will never know why she was admitted there. The gal on the phone was very nice and eager to help, and was sorry she couldn't
give me more info. So there ya go one more mystery solved. Now on to the next one "Who took care of all them kids?" Because if James went off to Spokane and died just where were them kids?

As per my Aunt Esther Ferguson who is 93 yrs old. She has lived there for many yrs.
I visited the office of the museum in St. Peter and talked to the person in charge and they went through their books and said Elizabeth Hamilton is in the Old St Peter Cemetary and the no of the stone is 311, bbbut
June Linquist called them and they told her it was 312.
