I went to the Martin County court house today to double check some names and dates and this is what I found to be true
Albert Winch son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Monteney) Winch, husband to Harriet Van Amber Han a son Edgar Erwin Born 1871, died April 22, 1872.
AND
James And Allison (Douglas) Winch son of Samuel and Elizabeth ( Monteney) Winch also had a sonWilliam Edwin Winch born, 1871 died, April 22, 1872.
AND
James and Elizabeth (Hamilton) Winch son of Samuel and Elizabeth ( Monteney)
Winch also had a son Willard Winch born 1878 died Aug. 25, 1879 from cholera.
AND NOW
I have this brain teaser for you I have a picture of a tombstone that reads:
James Winch Died June 28, 1903 Aged 3 days
below it on the same stone it reads:
Alice Ann Winch
Died Sept. 22, 1905
aged 10 days
Ok now at the court records today this is what I found:
Winch white, male, single died June 28, 1903, born June 25, 1903, Father James Mother Cora Herrick cause of death jaundice.
( Now I'm assuming at this point this is James Martin Winch because of the tombstone)
then this is a few rows down in the death records:
Winch J. Martin white, male, single, died Sept. 13, 1909, born Dec. 8, 1908, Father James, Mother Cora Herrick cause of death infantile paralysis. (What the ---- or who the ---- is this? )
Now this is the list of children I have for James and Cora:
Lee Harvey, Berten William, Elsie Adelia, Orion F (twin), Orrin J.(twin), Ina Cordelia, Everett, Paul Melvin, James Martin, Alice Ann, Robert James, and Robert Raymond Sr.
Could the stone be wrong? should it be Robert James? Are the record books Wrong? I haven't located a stone for Robert James? Could I have his name turned around could it also be James Robert? would they name two of their sons James? we've seen two Samuels..... yet the Bacon Herrick and Winch history book show me I have the names right....I am so confused.... Should I just put it down to one of those things you'll never figure out? *shrug*
Comments & suggestions are welcome....Jan
