Ruby moved from Saskatchewan to Oregon in the spring of 1927. (Silverton, Oregon)
They took the bus from Portland to Silverton. 15 miles from Salem, OR.
Dad went to work for the Silver Falls Lumber Co.
In the spring of 1928 the mill shut down and never opened again. There were 500 men out of work. The family moved then to California, they found work thinning fruit North of Sacramento. The lived in a small tent and then moved to Sunnyvale, Ca where they worked in a fruit cannery and also in a cannery in San Jose. The eventully moved to Wood Lake, Ca until 1931 where Roy worked in an orange grove year round until they left in December of 1930..

Roy and Ruby moved from California to an 80 acre farm in Oklahoma in 1930, 27 miles from Antlers, Oklahoma.. between Ft. Smith Arkansas and Antlers. They grew mostly corn.. They had a well but no running water or electricity. Dad and Ruby seperated about 1933. Dad (Roy Hamilton) went to Canada where he worked for his brother Bert.. He took the kids to Canada about 1934. Thomas worked in a saw Mill in Sask. on a small island abt. 15 miles from Sturgis, Sask and 20 miles North of Sturgis. There were no farms there except maybe one.
