Donald was drafted into service during WWII at Fort Lewis, WA on June 19, 1944. He was a combat infantryman in Co. D, 473rd Infantry; specialty, heavy machine gunner. On December 10, 1944 he embarked for overseas service in Italy. He participated in the battle for the Po Valley. His continental service was 11 Mos. 18 days; foreign service was 8 Mos. and 6 days. He was honorably discharged and separated from service on January 12, 1946.
