1895 census, Burr Oak, Winneshiek County, Iowa
According to the recently issued index of the 1895 Iowa census by Ancestry.com it would appear that Asel Winch (age 35), his wife Annie (age 27) and 4 children (Ella age 8, Winnie, age 5, Earl age 3, and Bertha, age 0) are living in Burr Oak, Iowa at the time of the 1895 census. Also appearing on the index would appear to be his parents Asel and Elizabeth Winch (age 73 and 65). The obit for Asel Winch at the time of his death indicates that he lived his entire life in Minnesota, but the 1895 census index for Iowa seems to indicate otherwise.. jca

re the 1895 Iowa , Burr Oak Census and the Asel Winch family.

As to the children you see listed there, you probably have some other Winch descendants on your list who also have actually seen some of these people alive, and I am one of them. For example, on your census you will will notice a girl Ella, age 8....she married her FIRST cousin, George Vickerman, son of Martha Winch Vickerman and they lived about six miles from my home in Tracy, Lyon County,Minn.....but note that the Vickermans are in another county MURRAY , only a jjump away, and this family of Vickerman cousins (Martha Winch married George Vickerman) although across a county line, are in essence in the same churches, cemeteries, social clubs, centered in Tracy in Lyon County. These of course were my mother's first cousins,(her mother being (Margaret)Jane Winch married to John Robbins).
Little Ella on the 1895 census, bring memories of this same Ella, the grown and married matron Ella Winch Vickerman and her husband George, attending my wedding in 1950, and at my grandmothers funeral in 1953, and coming and going shopping and chatting in our little town throughout the 1940's, when I was in my teens. In addition the two sisters of Asel Jr, always called "Ace" by his sisters Martha Winch Vickerman and (Margaret) Jane Winch Robbins.
