"Grandpa was visting his daughter Marion, he was helping her trim a tree and a branch from higher up fell and hit him on the temple, killing him instantly. He also had a glass eye, believe he lost the eye when he was sliding and hit a clothesline."

Onalaskan Is Mishap Victim
Onalaska, Wisconsin - (Special) - Carl A. Dahlby, 72, or Onalaska, was instantly killed yesterday at Elroy when the limb of a tree which he was trimming fell on his head. Word of the accident was received last night by relatives here.

Dahlby, with his son Levi Dahlby of LaCrosse, had gone to Elroy to spend the weekend with a daughter, Mrs. Melvin Sauska. The two had expected to aid Mrs. Sauska with the farm work while her husband went deer hunting.

Dahlby had been living with a daughter here, Mrs. Howard Westerhouse. Besides his son Levi, and his two daughters Mrs. Westerhouse and Mrs. Sauska, he is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Perry Musselman of Crystal Springs, Saskatchewan, and two other sons, LeRoy in LaCrosse and Chester at Galesville.

Funeral services, to be held at Onalaska, will be announced later.

Funeral services for Carl A. Dahlby, 72, Onalaska, who was instantly killed Friday at Elroy when the limb of a tree he was trimming fell on his head, will be held tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at the Howard Westerhouse residence in Onalaska and at 2 p.m. at the Onalaska Lutheran Church, Dr. Carl O. Pederson officiating. Interment will be in the Onalaska cemetery. Friends may call at the Smith funeral home this evening.

Mr. Dahlby was born Sept. 11, 1869, in Lewis Valley, LaCrosse county.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Perry Musselman of Crystal Springs, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mrs. Melvin Fauska of Elroy, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Howard Westerhouse of Onalaska; three sons, Levi and Leroy of LaCrosse and Chester of Galesville; one brother, Ben of LaCrosse; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His wife and one son preceded him in death.
